Disaster and Conflict Resolution Educational Tourism

The 2004 tsunami as the catalyst for lasting peace. The sheer scale of the humanitarian crisis forced both sides to halt hostilities so international aid could flow.

This cooperation led directly to formal peace talks, which culminated in the historic Helsinki Peace Accord in August 2005. The agreement ended the conflict, granted Aceh special autonomy, and brought long-term stability to the region.
